ABB India Revamps Faridabad Facility, Driving Sustainability and Efficiency

The Faridabad facility now operates with a significant focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and manufacturing innovation

Expansion includes solar energy adoption and the production of specialized motors

  • ABB India expands and modernizes its Faridabad IEC LV motor manufacturing unit.

  • The facility has embraced renewable energy, achieved a low-carbon operation, and earned the ‘Platinum level Green Factory Buildings’ certification.

  • ABB India’s specialized motor production helps improve safety and energy efficiency for Indian industries.

ABB India has officially expanded and upgraded its Faridabad IEC LV motor manufacturing unit, a pivotal step in the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and efficiency. The facility, which has been in operation since 1951, now includes modernized shopfloors and focuses on producing energy-efficient IE3 and IE4 motors as well as specialized motors such as flameproof, crane duty, and brake motors.

This transformation highlights ABB India’s dedication to eco-friendly practices, with the 36,000 square meter facility now running on renewable energy. In 2023, the plant generated 180 MWh of in-house solar power, contributing to its efforts to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint. As part of its sustainability initiatives, the facility has diverted almost 99% of its waste from landfills and received the prestigious ‘Platinum level Green Factory Buildings’ certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

Technical Focus

India’s industrial sector is increasingly adopting energy-efficient technologies, driven by rising environmental awareness and government policies supporting sustainability. The demand for high-efficiency motors, like those produced at ABB’s Faridabad facility, is expected to grow as industries across India prioritize reducing energy consumption and meeting regulatory requirements for carbon emissions. With ABB’s focus on innovative, energy-efficient solutions, the company is helping Indian industries keep pace with these demands while fostering long-term sustainability.

“The opening of the expanded Faridabad facility is a major milestone that reinforces our legacy of technological advancement and environmental responsibility,” said Sanjeev Arora, President – Motion Business, ABB India. “This facility now plays a crucial role in producing energy-efficient motors for Indian industries while making meaningful contributions to the local community and environment.”

By enhancing its local manufacturing capabilities, ABB India is improving its competitiveness in the global market. The integration of cutting-edge technologies, including digitalization and automation, enhances cost efficiency, ensuring the company is well-positioned to address emerging opportunities in sectors like data centres, pharmaceuticals, and bioethanol.
